Master FX began with a love of Halloween, a small fog machine, and an 18-year-old selling fog fluid from a 1993 Buick LeSabre. Founder and CEO Vince Camerano did not begin with a business degree or a proven leadership system. He began with curiosity, passion, and a willingness to figure things out.
In this episode of Beyond the Limelight, Vince turns more than a decade of experience into five practical lessons for anyone leading a team in the entertainment industry.
1. Be nice.
Entertainment is a smaller world than it appears. The person you meet at a trade show may become a client, collaborator, employee, or advocate years later. Early in the Master FX story, Vince took time to speak with someone who was planning a themed attraction. A year later, that conversation became a major account, partly because other vendors had not given the project the same attention. Kindness is not a tactic, but it creates the trust on which business is built.
2. Prepare for “I needed it yesterday.”
Live production moves fast. Equipment breaks, plans change, and a last-minute request can become the most important job of the day. When a Super Bowl production needed fog fluid within hours, the Master FX team found a way to deliver. Leaders have to build teams and systems that can respond to urgency without losing focus.
3. Expect doors to close.
Rejection is part of growth. A company may not be ready for your product or you may not yet be ready to serve that company well. Vince’s advice is to keep moving, keep learning, and revisit the opportunity later. A closed door can protect you from overreaching before your inventory, people, or processes are prepared.
4. Stay adaptable.
Creative clients ask unusual questions. One project began with a request to make fog rise from giant bowls around the clock. Vince said yes before every technical detail was solved. That willingness to explore became another building block in Master FX’s custom integration capabilities. Adaptability does not mean making reckless promises. It means believing the team can learn its way to a solution.
5. Practice patience.
Sustainable companies and dependable products take time. Master FX could have rushed several machines to market at once, but chose to develop them deliberately. Patience improves decisions, protects quality, and gives people room to grow.
Vince adds two valuable reminders: stay innovative and stay conscious. Think about the next product or show, but also notice the people around you. Ask how they are doing. Recognize when someone needs help. Pay attention to your own health.
Leadership in entertainment is not only about having the boldest idea. It is about creating the conditions in which people can confidently turn bold ideas into reliable results.
